La Bouillonnante 2013

In 2013 I took pictures of trail-running events instead of running them. Photographing was just as much fun, but I always had the feeling I was missing out by not running. I stopped photography when it turned out that there was little money to be made with it. I couldn't raise an income with photography.

La Bouillonnante is one of the great Belgian trails with distances up to 54 kilometers and 2450 meters of altitude meters around Château de Bouillon. The competition is held in April among bright green leaves emerging in the spring forest. The river that meanders through the landscape is the Semois.

Every trail competition has its heroes and a large group back-of-the-pack runners. I am a back-of-the-pack runner and could only take a good look at the fast runners during photography. Frenchman Michel Verhaeghe won the Bouillonnante of 2013 and sneaked through the forest like a leopard with an incredible concentration. Afterwards he said he didn't see me at all. Olivier Harduin was less than fifteen minutes slower than Verhaegh, but was fully aware of his surroundings and clowning round. Two fast runners with a completely different style.
